The basic difference between 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz is that 2.4Ghz covers more area than 5Hz, however 5Ghz provides better speed than 2.4Ghz. However it gets technical from here onwards and to get to know what are used case scenarios of both of these WiFi bands you have to be a little technical.
These numbers represents different frequency bands of WiFi. In basic words 2.4Ghz travels farther with slower speeds and on the other hand 5Ghz gives faster speed but cannot reach farther distance than 2.4Ghz. That means you can connect devices that are little far from the router to 2.4Ghz to get WiFi but the devices that are close to your router should be connected to 5Ghz WiFi band.
You can avoid being in the situation to choose which WiFi band should you connect your devices with by choosing mesh WiFi system.
